Agricultural Mechanization IAI Recommendations

Agricultural Mechanization prepares students for careers involving the application, management, service, and marketing of agricultural technologies and equipment. Completing the recommended courses below will help ensure a smooth transfer between Illinois institutions. Be sure to consult with your academic advisor early and regularly as you plan your educational path.

Agricultural - Mechanization IAI Major Recommendations

Agricultural Mechanization Core Courses (17-20 semester credits)

AG 903 - Introduction to Crop (or Plant) Science (4 semester credits)
AG 906 - Introduction to Agricultural Mechanization (3-4 semester credits)
AG 907 - Introduction to Precision Agriculture (2-4 semester credits) - NEW COURSE!

In addition, students should select additional Agriculture core courses in consultation with an Agriculture advisor from the following page: Agriculture Electives.

Other Recommendations by the Agriculture major panel:

Recommended Prerequisite: All agriculture majors need to be computer literate. You must be able to negotiate an operating system such as OS/2, DOS, or Windows; access the Internet; and use word processing, database and spreadsheet software. If you cannot do this, first take:
AG 913 - Introductory Microcomputer Skills in Agriculture (0-3 semester credits)

Agricultural Mechanization IAI GECC Recommendations (Minimum 37 semester credits))

These are the specific courses in the Illinois Transferable General Education Core Curriculum (IAI GECC) that should be taken for this emphasis.

Communication: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
Select a two-course sequence in writing (6 semester credits) with a grade of "C" or better and, Select 1 course in oral communication (3 semester credits).

Mathematics: 1 course (3 semester credits)
Select at least 1 course in consultation with an Agriculture advisor from - College-level Calculus, General Education Statistics, Finite Mathematics.

Physical and Life Sciences: 2 courses (7-8 semester credits)
Select from Physical Sciences - General Education Chemistry with Laboratory.
Select from Life Sciences - General Education Biology with Laboratory.

Humanities and Fine Arts: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
Select 1 course from Humanities, Select 1 course from Fine Arts and Select 1 from either Humanities or Fine Arts. - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.

Social and Behavioral Sciences: 3 courses (9 semester credits)
Select 3 courses from at least 2 different disciplines (e.g., no more than 2 courses from, for example, psychology). - Courses can be taken from the same identifier as long as the course outcomes are different.
