Serving on an Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) Panel

Serving on an Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) panel is an important professional service that supports student transfer throughout Illinois. Explore the information below to learn about panel expectations, meeting participation, time commitments, travel, and the course review process.

What is the time commitment?

Panel members typically serve during the fall and spring review cycles. Most panels meet once each semester (generally March/April and October/November), either in person or virtually. In addition to attending meetings, members review course submissions in iManage. The amount of time required varies depending on the number and complexity of courses submitted.

Some panels also conduct additional business throughout the year using conference calls, web meetings, or email.

Where are panel meetings held?

Most panel meetings are held at the Illinois State University Alumni Center in Normal. Free parking is available. While in-person participation is encouraged when available, virtual participation is available for all panels.

Panel members who miss three consecutive meetings may be removed from the panel in accordance with the IAI Policies and Procedures Manual.

Who pays for travel?

Participating institutions are responsible for reimbursing travel expenses for their panel members, if members are reimbursed.

Is the panel membership information current?

Panel membership is updated regularly. To report changes, contact itransfer@itransfer.org. Current openings are viewable on the Panel Vacancies page.

Course Review Decisions

During the review process, panels may make one of four decisions:

Approved: The course is added to the IAI database and no further action is needed at this time.

Conditional Approval: This course will be moved to full approval status with one or two items provided to panel co-chairs. This decision does NOT require the full panel to review any additional and new information submitted. It can be approved as soon as the panel co-chairs review information submitted. These decisions have a time limit for responding and getting the information into the panel co-chairs. If that deadline is missed, the course will go before the full in the following semester. Courses conditionally approved in the review process can have additional information submitted to the panel co-chairs via the iManage system by the institutional submitter.

Needs More Information: Course has some items either missing from the submission or requires a couple of items to be addressed before approval for the IAI descriptor. Requires full panel review so resubmission with new or additional information waits until the next review session. Courses not approved in the review process can be resubmitted to the panel via the iManage system by the institutional submitter.

Returned: Course needs reworking to be considered a match for the IAI descriptor. Requires full panel review so resubmission with new or additional information waits until the next review session. Courses not approved in the review process can be resubmitted to the panel via the iManage system by the institutional submitter.
