GECC Panel Member Responsibilities:
As a General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) panel member, you play an essential role in maintaining the quality and transferability of Illinois' general education curriculum. Panel members:
- Provide a forum for faculty from participating institutions to guide the General Education Core Curriculum (GECC), foster a shared understanding of general education objectives and curriculum content, and monitor developments within the discipline.
- Develop and maintain the content guidelines and learning objectives for courses within the GECC discipline area, identifying the essential concepts, competencies, and outcomes that establish minimum statewide expectations.
- Communicate the rationale for GECC content guidelines and learning objectives to faculty and administrators at participating Illinois colleges and universities.
- Review and evaluate course submissions to determine whether they meet IAI course approval criteria, content guidelines, and learning objectives for inclusion in the GECC
