Media and Communication Arts/MC - IAI Major Course Recommendations

Bachelor's degree programs in Media and Communication Arts include several areas of study, including Advertising and Public Relations, Radio/Television/Film, Journalism and Photojournalism, Multimedia, and Communication Studies. In addition to completing the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) General Education Core Curriculum (GECC), students are encouraged to complete at least 9 semester credit hours in their intended area of specialization. The remaining coursework needed to complete an associate degree should be selected in consultation with an academic advisor.

Students who complete at least 60 semester credit hours may transfer as juniors. Community college students are encouraged to complete an Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degree before transferring. Because admission requirements vary by institution and program, students should consult their intended transfer institution regarding portfolio reviews, minimum GPA requirements, and other admission criteria.

Note: Students pursuing Media and Communication Arts should be proficient in basic computer skills. Computer literacy is an important foundation for success in these fields and should be developed before or early in a student's college experience.
