  1.  Introductions and make sure technology is working.

  1.  IAI Information
    1. Walk-through of Website
      1. What would you like to see if a new member in order to prepare for meetings?
        1. Camtasia Presentations
      2. We now have a YouTube channel where we can put these things
    2. No movement yet by the boards to bring the English Major codes back.
    3. Shall we continue to meet as a panel?
      1. Are we accomplishing anything?
      2. Possible to do the meeting entirely electronically
      3. Is there anything else that can be worked on to get more agreement on a common core of transfer courses for English Majors?
      4. It would be nice to find a way to find other English elective courses for students for transfer, but would the Boards approve for IAI codes?
      5. Meeting is a good opportunity for us to consider if what we have in Majors is good for students.
      6. Humanities & Fine Arts Panel doesn’t want to add more descriptors.  They have more than enough courses to review now.
      7. Feel we are under-serving our Major students.
      8. When students come in for advising, it depends on school whether courses transfer or not.  Sometimes creative Writing can be used for Advanced Writing, etc.
      9. What should we work on if we continue to meet?  Do we need to meet annually?  There is value in touching base, seeing if we should work on anything to further the Major.
      10. Are there any complaints?  English students seem happy.
      11. Have we asked the stud3ents?  We currently don’t have a way except for offering the Question/Problem link.
      12. Suggestion by Krista:  Panel – help me with next year’s meeting:
        1. Bring a list of issues
        2. Talk to students
        3. This will help keep us viable, purposeful, and if things change it would be painful to restructure the Panel.
        4. Therefore, we will schedule an annual meeting, and touch base before the meeting to see if scheduled planned meeting is needed.  Krista will ask in early May whether or not we need to meet.

  1.  Statewide Transfer Updates
    1. ICCB and IBHE together are trying to get Common Core going for GECC Comm. Writing I and Writing II with Speech Course.  All information on these websites:
      3. PARCC is the reason this is happening.
        1. Illinois is one of 13 states doing this
        2. Krista will forward panel minutes from GECC Communication to English Panel from the Nov. 9 meeting
        3. Once English Writing and Speech are aligned, they will move on to the Sciences.
    2. Legislation Update
      1. Seems to be on hold which means things are going well with IAI, legislators are seeing this.
      2. The only thing going forward is Women Working legislation planning.

  1.  Next meeting will be held Friday, September 20, 2013 at either ISU Alumni Center or Heartland Comm. College
