1. Introductions & Technology, Welcome New Members

  • Welcome Jon Althaus to the panel and explanation of the CAO membership role.

2. Training, Orientation & Updates

  • Due to the ongoing budget impasse, major panel meetings with low number of courses to review will continue to meet via conference calls.  We do recognize this isn't the most ideal situation and hope that we will be able to reconvene meeting in person in the future.  Thanks to everyone for their continued patience during this difficult operational time.

3. Course Review

  • MacMurray College course sequence - Not Enough Information
  • Wilbur Wright College (CCC) course sequence - Approved
  • Illinois State University course sequence - Not Enough Information
  • Triton College course sequence - Not Enough Information

4. Course Approval Criteria and Submission Process - Review materials

  • Given the number of courses that were sent back for lab information, panel members recommended highlighting the section about submitting the required lab information as listed on the panel's Checklist for BIO 910 Submissions document.  Malinda will make changes as appropriate / possible.
  • Panel members will also work on creating an example of a good sample syllabus that submitters may use as a tool for future submissions.

5. Items from Panel Members

  • Discussion regarding the courses that GECC Life Sciences ended (such as A & P) and if the Bio major panel should work on adding them as new descriptors.  The GECC Life Panel previously determined these courses no longer qualified as a general education courses due to the major-specific content typically covered in these types of courses.  A Google doc has been distributed to all Bio major panel members to get feedback on writing new descriptors for A & P and Micro Biology.  This work and discussion will be ongoing for some time as the panel may ultimately decide that there are too many caveats associated with these two courses and therefore it is not possible to add them as new descriptors.  To Be Continued!

6. Dates for Next Meetings –

  • Fall '17 = Friday, October 6
  • 2018 Spring and Fall meeting dates will be set during the Oct. 6 meeting
