Welcome & Introductions
GECC Communication – Lori Cinotte
Approximately 20% of courses Accepted.
Panel wants more participation from 4 years.
New proposal for Mass Comm panel to include communication structure studies. Votes were overwhelmingly approving of the proposal. Media and Communication Arts for the title? Some want Studies.
Forming sub-committee for comm studies descriptors – course submissions Fall 2016?
GECC Humanities & Fine Arts – Sean Doyle
Huge number of descriptors. Looking at trimming down, adding new where needed.
GECC Social & Behavioral Science – Lily Siu
Need more consistency in the way we evaluate courses.
Documented clear delineation in criteria will help
GECC Mathematics – Mary Wright
64 courses reviewed.
Returned 14 – high – no evidence on re-submits that they had read any comments. Communication issue?
Not completely happy with a couple of descriptors
GECC Life Sciences – Kelly McConnaughay
Institutions are not reading panel’s comments and recommendations.
Need to revise Environmental Biology course descriptor.
GECC Physical Sciences – Steve Bennett
Missing items. Institutions not reading comments and recommendations.

Interest in Associate Science degree
Beginnings of Studies of Report on Transfer Patterns in Illinois from Eric Litchenberger - IBHE
Board & IAI Updates
AP Bill – Malinda Aiello – All public institutions now have to give credit to students who receive a 3 or better in AP tests. It used to be up to the institutions whether or not the student received credit. The original legislation included IAI but the final law doesn’t.
Special meetings with GECC panels to work on the AP issue are desired for Feb. 19 and 26th – one date for Physical and Life Science panels, one date for Humanities & Fine Arts and Social & Behavioral Science panels.
Other legislation – Student Transfer Assistance Act – Public Act 099-0316 – if student earns Associates Degree, guaranteed admission to 4 yr but not necessarily to major
“New” Associate of Science Degree – Ashley Becker – questions were answered.
Eric Litchenberger – IBHE Transfer Survey – Pilot Study of Transfer within the state
Dual Credit Initiative – Malinda Aiello – is Official. Further supporting current rules/policies. Stipulates institution must have operating approval from IBHE and that region.
Policy Discussions – GECC Humanities & Fine Arts requirement of 1 course from each area plus 1 more course - 1998 memo on how policy is interpreted but it never made it to Policies & Procedures Manual.
Technically the descriptor is the same for 2 courses, but the course isn’t the same one.
This group must resolve the issue
All 3 courses different descriptors or let institutions use the same descriptor
Motion passed unanimously to allow institutions to use the same descriptor if the course is different
Submission/iTransfer updates from TC Meeting – panel-related documents should always be consulted before submissions etc. Krista will send out an End-Of-Season update document.
Panel Rotation – we have members who have served forever. We are starting to rotate people off panels. This helps keep people geared towards what they should be focused on.
