1. Introductions & Technology
2. IAI Updates
a. Discussion regarding an issue with new prerequisites for Math which are not in the IAI descriptor for a new IMAAC course
i. Recommended the Math Panel should deal with this. (See attached email from Keven Hansen which addresses this. Panel decided to accept his recommendations so Krista will be making the changes to the website)
b. There is a 4 year public institution not honoring the 30 Hour memo in IAI Documents. Enforcers of this are the Boards.
i. This committee needs to help enforce. This instance – 3 options:
1. Re-issue the memo as is
2. Modify the memo to clarify
3. Follow-up with the institution
ii. IBHE will update and re-issue the memo.
iii. Possibly it should be added to the FAQ on the IAI website. Is in the Policies & Procedures manual.
c. Reverse Transfer – not much happening about this at Boards right now.
i. Many institutions are working on this. All work needs to be consolidated.
ii. Should we form a sub-committee to report to Boards?
iii. Brian will bring this up at other meetings to see what’s happening around the state.
iv. Results show very slim results compared to the work involved.
d. Teacher Licenture and Panel Changes?
i. Nothing right now. Working on starting up Early Childhood Education.
e. There is concern regarding what happens to IAI credit when a student transfers and the institution has no matching course, so the student is penalized. Report of 2 incidents in the last 3 weeks.
i. This group needs to recommend to Steering – in writing – that College Algebra should be included as a GECC course.
1. TC’s should do this also
2. Rick Pearce will work up language, submit to this group to take to Steering.
f. Membership – Malinda contacted all public institutions (4 year). Majority are not responding. Also, a memo was sent to all privates – some responses have been received.
g. Computer Science Specialties Programming & Security – half want, half don’t. The panel is exploring with public 4 years.
i. This committee should establish a ¾ rule
3. Personnel Changes/Absences
a. IAI Website Programmer has left for another position at ISU. The position has been posted and will expire next Wednesday, 4-16-14. There have been only 2 people apply, so the posting may be extended.
i. We are keeping a list of changes/corrections that need to be made on the site
ii. Hope for a start date of June 1 for the new person
b. Many are not aware of the fact that Janice was out for 6 weeks this winter due to a heart attack. She is doing very well now, but this made it hard for Krista to get everything done with the programmer position vacant also.
a. Right before leaving, Adam rolled out a new version of iManage. We need to have several tweaks done, but that probably won’t happen before Fall
b. Hoping to call courses for Fall Ongoing Review in June but this depends on the Boards’ ability to get together to come up with their list of courses.
5. Items From Members
a. At TC meeting, the idea will be brought up that at the Fall meeting, there may possibly be a split off so 2 years can talk about their issues and 4 year can talk about their issues.
i. Some issues don’t get to be addressed at TC meeting as it is currently managed.
ii. Similar to Birds of a Feather in IACRAO
iii. Need to be sure to have a designated moderator for each group, with assigned topics.
b. Agenda item for TC Meeting – Military Credit
6. Spring IAC Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Lincoln College. TC Meeting will try to be scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2014.

Subject: RE: Mathematics General Education Panel
I guess I forgot the attachments! The attachments are screenshots of two of the locations at the website—I’ve included the address line in each screenshot so you can see where I was…
The first is looking at the math GECC course descriptions. Looking at the statement that precedes the IAI Math GECC courses, it states that all courses require satisfactory completion of intermediate algebra and geometry. That is no longer the case—some (but not all) courses now allow PMGE to be substituted for intermediate algebra.
In addition, the course descriptions listed on this same page are not correct for M1-901, M1-902, M1-904, and M1-907. The prerequisites have not been adjusted to reflect the panel’s acceptance of PMGE as a pre-requisite for these courses.
The second location is from the “faculty side.” Under “Documents Associated with this Panel” is
Minor Revision Approval Criteria

Within this document is a section entitled “Prerequisites.” It is this section which inaccurately states that all math GECC courses require intermediate algebra.
1. In the first statement (on the webpage with the course descriptions), replace
All courses listed require at least satisfactory completion of intermediate algebra and geometry as prerequisites.
All courses listed require at least satisfactory completion (a “C” or better) of intermediate algebra and geometry as prerequisites. For M1-901, M1-902, M1-904, and M1-907, satisfactory completion (a “C” or better) of Preparatory Mathematics for General Education (PMGE) may be used to meet the intermediate algebra requirement.
2. Also, replace the prerequisites currently listed on that same web-page for M1-901, M1-902, M1-904, and M1-907. Replace
Prerequisite: C or better in both intermediate algebra and geometry.
Prerequisite: Intermediate Algebra or PMGE and Geometry, both with a grade of “C” or better.
3. In the pdf document replace
The prerequisites (including prefix, number and title) for any course to be approved as a course that will satisfy general education mathematics requirement are at least satisfactory completion (a “C” or better) of Intermediate Algebra and Geometry. Any course submitted for approval that does not state at least these prerequisites will not be approved on this basis alone. Institutions that require at least these prerequisites for admission to the institution should make that fact known to the panel.

The above changes should bring the website and the pdf document into alignment with the panel’s wishes and the IMACC/ISMAA Articulation Guide.
