Notes of Conference Call Friday, December 2, 2011

 

Members Present:  Co-Chair Sean Wm. Doyle (Moraine Valley Comm. College), Emmett Bradbury (Chicago State Univ.), Stephen Canfield (Eastern Illinois University), Sarah Hein (Prairie State College), Wayne Holly (Midstate College), Yvonne Newlin (Lincoln Trail College), Lily Siu (Richland Comm. College).

  1.  Sub-committee has put together a draft course descriptor for 4th year Foreign Language courses as follows:

 

“A fourth semester course (or above) in a foreign language that is designed to increase proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in the language as well as providing knowledge of the culture or cultures of peoples who speak the language. The nature of writing assignments must be appropriate to both the level and the target language. ”

 

 

  1. This descriptor has been posted on Web Review for voting immediately before resubmitted courses, named as follows:

  1. Deadline for voting is December 16, 2011.

 

  1. If approved, this descriptor will be in effect for new courses in Spring 2012, plus 5 year Review courses in Fall of 2012.
    1. No additional 5 year review courses will be called until the panel says they are ready

 

  1.  Krista will send notifications out to institutions informing them of the change in course descriptor.

 

  1. Pending courses that were not voted on in Fall 2011:
    1. All were Web Review voted as Returns or Need More Information, so it was decided to send all back to institutions with a note that says:

 

“Course Descriptor revised, please review and re-submit for Spring or Fall of 2012"
